Eye Candy & Quiz
Topic: Biology
Well I was taking some phase pictures of hepatocytes (liver cells) that we plated on a collagen coated coverslip - nice cells, if I do say so myself. To the left is an image of a hepathocyte (or part of a hepathocyte), all those lines and squiggles being organelles ... compartments where specialized cellular functions take place.

So here is your quiz ...

What is organelle A (the big round slightly out-of-focus thing)?
What is organelle B (the dark dots)?
What is organelle C (the long squiggles)?

And finally, which of these organelles contains DNA?

Funny thing is that I just noticed the question mark in side of organelle A ...

Good luck!

Organelle A is clearly the nucleus.

Organelle C (according to one source) is a mitochondrion.

all that's left is Organelle B ... well researching on the web I discovered this site:

so I would guess that organelle B is a lysosome

Second part of the question is with regards to DNA content ...

So both Organelles A and C have DNA.

I don't think that organelle B has DNA, although in old transfection protocols we would treat our cells with lysosome inhibitors, to prevent the cells from degrading the transfected DNA. So I guess there could be DNA in organelle B.

Good job!
